Become a Sponsor for Our Webinar Series!

We offer these webinars as a free educational opportunity for our NEARI Press customers and those who care deeply about this work. However, we would not be able to do this important work without our sponsors and donors.

As a small non-profit organization, we rely on subscribers to help support our webinar work. Please consider becoming a sponsor of NEARI Press and Training Center's exciting new 2017-2018 webinar series. For those who can support us through a subscription, we will send you two of NEARI Press's popular titles:  Current Applications and Current Perspectives (other titles if you have subscribed last year!) with a value of $149 and we guarantee a seat at each webinar for the 2017-2018 season. A great deal! Sponsorship is $98 for individuals and $250 for organizations.  If you regularly attend please consider becoming a sponsor. Please contact Diane Langelier at 413.540.0712 x14 or at for more information or to sign up.

We believe that given a chance to hear an author speak about his or her work through our webinars, you, the listener will have the chance to “preview the book” and have the opportunity to learn so much more by combining both online and offline learning.

Leading Sexuality Education Groups with Sexually Abusive Youth: Streetwise to Sex-Wise, the NEW Third Edition

E-mail Print

FEATURED NEARI RESOURCES:

Presenter:  Steven Brown
Date: Tues. May 16, 2017
Time: 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM EST
Host: Craig Latham
Technical Advisor: Tim Griffith

Description: Since the 1980s, many in the sex abuse field have raised concerns that sexually abusive youth often emerge from treatment programs with a sophisticated knowledge of what NOT to do with their sexual feelings, but little if any knowledge about healthy sexual expression. Many feel unprepared to enter the world of romantic and sexual relationships. Some come to equate any sexual expression with deviant sexual expression. Others vow to put their sexuality away altogether.

Now, there is general agreement that best practice involves helping youth learn about healthy sexuality, not only stopping abusive sexual behavior. It requires teaching about sexual behaviors youth can engage in as replacement behaviors for abusive sexuality.

For 25 years, Streetwise to Sex-wise: Sexuality Education for High-Risk Youth, now in its 3rd edition, has been a “go-to” curriculum for agencies across the globe serving youth with sexual behavior problems. This interactive workshop, by the author, will introduce participants to the third edition, discuss the methodology for teach sexuality education to high-risk youth, and introduce strategies used in sex ed groups for this population.

Practice Self-Regulation™ a Trauma-Informed Approach for Adolescent Sexual Health

E-mail Print

FEATURED NEARI RESOURCES:

Presenter:  Joann Schladale
Date: Tues. April 11, 2017
Time: 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM EST
Host: Craig Latham
Technical Advisor: Tim Griffith

Description: Practice Self-Regulation™ is a federally funded trauma-informed approach for adolescent sexual health and well-being. It is the first study integrating sexual health promotion with sexual violence prevention through a trauma-informed therapeutic intervention to prevent sexual harm, STI’s, HIV, and teen pregnancy. It is being evaluated through two random controlled studies of adolescents aged 14-19. One study integrates the promotion of sexual health into psychotherapy with youth, while the other blends e-learning through eight web-based sessions supported by four meetings with a program facilitator. The T.O.P.* Workbook for Sexual Health provides the cornerstone for this federally funded “innovative practice” and learning to practice self-regulation is the central unifying element of the intervention.

Updating Psychotherapeutic Practices with Ancient Indigenous Wisdom

Presenter:  Geral BlanchardFEATURED NEARI RESOURCES:
who am i
Date: Tues. February 7, 2017
Time: 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM EST
Host: David Prescott
Technical Advisor: Tim Griffith

Description:

Through the aboriginal practice of storytelling, with minimal lecturing, Gerry will explain the Native American concept of Óriginal Instructions” as it pertains to today’s healing practices. It is a practical application of Kierkegaard’s notion of living our life forward by understanding it backward. As we create more and more sophisticated technologies, there is a tendency to conclude there is no validity to any other culture, or period of time, in which healers believed and acted differently. Yet, ancient cultures healed each other in accord with long established best practices that flowed with the rhythms of their natural environment.
