The Basics of Motivational Interviewing

E-mail Print

Presenter: David S. Prescott, LICSW
Date: Nov 18, 2014
Time: 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM EST
Host: Steve Bengis and Joan Tabachnick
Technical Advisor: Greg Day

This webinar offers one Continuing Education Credit for Social Workers and Psychologists.

Description:

This webinar provides an overview of the foundation and beginning skills of Motivational Interviewing (MI). Importantly, it also covers changes made to MI and first presented by the author in September 2011. MI is a client-centered counseling method for exploring how and why a person might change, and is based upon a guiding style. Its principles and techniques match those known to produce positive outcomes with sexual abusers. MI can be very useful for motivating people who are ambivalent about change and ambivalent about engaging in treatment.

Enjoyed the webinar…Until I heard the lecture, thought "motivation to change" was taking an offender to the gate of the prison and telling him that how soon he saw the other side of that gate depended on his level of cooperation. Seriously, the webinar was an eye opener for me, the ideas sound like they would fit in well with our treatment program.
