A Relational Approach to the Treatment of Sexually Abusive Adolescents with Phil Rich
January 8, 2013 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Webinar Description: Despite anything technical we may teach children and adolescents with sexual behavior problems, such as thinking errors, behavioral cycles, and safe behavior and relapse prevention plans, treatment for sexually abusive or troubled sexual behavior is, perhaps above all, about relationships, social connection, and engagement in a healthy and safe community. In this more holistic model of rehabilitation, not only is treatment significantly about attachment and connection but treatment must itself be delivered in a way that is connective. Workbooks are often used as a central element in treatment with sexually troubled youth. This webinar will address the use of workbooks, not to simply teach ideas about sexually abusive behavior, but instead to increase the ability of troubled youths to think about and understand healthy and connected relationships to others, and thus work on their communication and relationship skills. Of central importance, in teaching skills that expand learning beyond the completion of workbook assignments, it is the role of the clinician to help bring workbook learning to life in each client, bringing these ideas into their awareness and developing skill set.
