Description

This online course, written by Dr. Alec Peck, produced by the New England Adolescent Research Institute Inc. (NEARI) and funded by the Massachusetts Association of 766 Approved Private Schools (maaps), is intended for parents who are considering special education options for their school-aged child. In this course, you will learn about important issues, such as:

  • Referring a student for evaluation
  • Clarifying the process for evaluating a student
  • Understanding your role and rights when you meet with the evaluation team
  • Determining the most appropriate evaluation for your child

About the Author(s)
alec-peckDr. Alec Peck is Associate Professor of Special Education in the Lynch School of Education at Boston College. Currently, he is also the Editor of "Teaching Exceptional Children" (a print journal) and its online extension, "Teaching Exceptional Children Plus". These are bi-monthly special education journals that are widely read in the field. Dr. Peck is also the current President of the Council for Children with Behavioral Disorders, a national advocacy and professional association that works on behalf of students with Emotional and Behavioral Disorders. Dr. Peck has written several books, book chapters, and journal articles and has presented at many national and state conferences on special education.
